I doubt we see Pods used
While the WAC did sort of go down that road, it was all so short term that it did not matter and as far as most in the college football world thought about it, the what happened in the WAC was unimportant.
But, the biggest reason I think PODs will not happen is that most of the fans have no idea what they are nor will they on average understand them from rotation to the next. Fans on message boards are much more in touch with the mechanism and it is simple for us to the point of being "Well, duh!" sort of thinking when mentioned.
But for the typical fan sitting down to a game and recalling that last year VT and FSU played and this they aren't seem odd, worse 4 of the teams from last year are gone 4 new ones on the schedule. The typical fan is not going to like that and as much as we on message boards think we have some clout, the amount of money we spend on a game is a fraction of what the less-engaged spend.
PODs are nice trick, but if they were the answer they would be used in every conference by now.
Additionally, the bylaws seem to imply PODs are a no go, even though the WAC got by with it. I do not see the NCAA bending over for this nor the Big Ten because killing PODs means Notre Dame can't sit down.
